It is a folk dance originating in the beautiful lands of the state of Jalisco and created at the end of the 19th century, originally it is accompanied by mariachis playing the song while a group of dancers flirtatiously stamp their feet on stage.

The suits in women are long and wide dresses with long sleeves with very striking colored ribbons, their shoes are mid-calf boots

For men they wear a charro suit with buttons on the sides of their pants and in front of their jacket, under the jacket they wear a white shirt with a bowtie that sticks to the neck, these can be in different striking colors, in terms of footwear they wear black boots.

The history of this dance dates back to 1711, when Mexico was still under the rule of the Spanish Crown. It is a massive dance in which a large part of the population of Chiapas de Corzo, in the state of Chiapas, participates.

When the carnival season arrives, the streets of the towns of Morelos become the bed of a multicolored river fed by the costumes of the so-called “chinelos” their appearance dressed in wooden masks, hats crowned with feathers and velvety tunics with embroidery alluding to gods and pre-Hispanic characters.

The typical clothing of the Chinelos is especially striking due to the inlays of sequins and beads that enhance their festive character.
